it's been a very merry christmas. the stack of clothing waiting to be shortened, repaired, taken in, and altered will finally receive some attention.
my apartment will soon be a happy little sweatshop.

the first time i saw audrey i was in elementary school, sleeping over at a friends house. her character was a parisian aristocrat who falls in love with who she believes to be an art thief. she wore enormous sunglasses, had a beautiful accent, tiny features and was an absolutely straight line when standing sideways.
i was in love.
after that it was charades, sabrina, breakfast at tiffany's, my fair lady, paris when it sizzles, funnyface...
undeniably the best by far.
she transforms from a naive little stringbean into a bitter wife and i loved every second of it.
also the blame for the awesomeness of this movie is albert finney, who you might remember as the dying dad in big fish. he's just as ugly young, but in a grouchy sort of attractive way.
i guess this movie is like what "the story of us" was based on. but this one is wayyy better and who really likes bruce willis?
so netflix it now.

My love of clothing and d.i.y. have collided into a splendid. joyous union.
I'm going to start posting some items for sale on Etsy once I have a collection together, but for now, here is a preview.
My concept is to begin with a piece of clothing that's already cool in its own right. A vintage calvin klein button down perhaps, or a cheerful turtleneck covered in tiny hearts. Things that are already wear-able, just lacking a bit of fun. Then I add something that makes it one-of-a-kind, in this case an embroidered vespa, a "zipper pin" heart, or a handmade felt bird.
hope they make you happy.

entertain yourself by entering names of people you are suspicious of until you run out of names and start entering everyones including your parents and siblings. por example: "judy once text messaged someone 'u r teh bomb' ". ha. she wishes.
it's fun to read completely made up crap about celebrities- and FUNNER to read made up crap about people you ACTUALLY KNOW.

planning ahead...

it occured to me today that in order to keep new years from being an overwhelming disappointment, i should probably start planning now.
my ideal december 31st includes:
a killer outfit
fizzy alcoholic drinks
happening location
fun people
and an excellent, non-committal new years kiss
with a handsome, sarcastic stranger.

i'm working on the outfit, the rest is gonna have to come outta thin air.

ten days of perfect tunes.

the last few days i have been listening to the same song continuously. it sounds boring, but it's not. first of all, it's a great song, second of all, there's like 40 versions of it found here:
there's this enya-y version...jose gonzalez, and the original by the knife.

along with some crappy techno and some other band that doesn't really relate.
just click "listen" and this little player pops up and you can listen to your hearts content.
this designer from brooklyn used it in her runway show, and now i feel fashion-y listening to it.

and also

the apple of my heart is returning from her semester-long voyage to discover herself, grow creatively, absorb cutlure, and makeout with foreign guys. come home safely my sweet!

that's right folks. a december dandelion.

green thumb, weak heart

i've got these houseplants-
3 of them,
tropical-looking grassy trees.
They are dying
They are not dead-
But I no longer water them.
I obtained them from a neglectful boyfriend
Who was not giving them enough attention.
It didn't work out with us either,
we just weren't made to take care of each other.
We talk still
months later,
I told him his plants were doing really well.
He didn't care...and really
Why should he have?
Now the plants aren't doing well at all,
Poor little raggedy stray dogs.
My roomate asks me to throw them out,
but I can't- to me, they are still alive.
I told her she can throw them if she wants.
I came home one day to find them outside our door,
on the stairwell landing.
I guess she just wanted them out of the house.
Neither of us have paid them any attention,
But they just. don't. die.
If all the leaves fell
The branches dried up
Fruit flies started hovering...
I would be fine to haul them into the dumpster.
They're in this weird half-living state.
He calls every now and then,
Nothing has changed,
it would never work.
But it just won't die,
and I can't throw it out.

just thought you should know

every morning i see her
short little lady
a mess of cropped white hair
clutching her walker
furiously pacing down chestnut street
up and back

this morning is so cold
the metal zipper on my boots
feel like icicles on my calves
when i get inside
my nose gets drippy
and my cheeks feel raw and scraped

yet there she is
hunched into the wind
racing towards...
a longer life?
a healthier heart?
maybe her own death perhaps, pneumonia?
