the youngest (so far)

i just found this in my sister's photos. i love this photo, it was the first visit i took to kentucky to meet isaac. we went the the lake that day, it was so hot and sticky , the way it always is, august in kentucky.
isaac's eight months old now. he's at that lovely age where he is totally enraptured with his mom. if i'm holding him, i have to leave the room she's in to get any attention at all. if i stay, his stare is always set on her, he is always facing her, and his tiny, chubby arms reach towards her.
however, when i do get attention, it's all completely charming.
he's not quite speaking yet but he's saying
"oh abby you are hilaaaarious. what will you think of next?"

life lessons

it's 1:17 and the unpleasant rumbling of stomache acid rolling around in my hungry belly has been replaced with a heavy, intestine twisting pain- a dull and not-so-subtle reminder that Beef and Broccoli with Peanut Sauce, as delicious as it always looks, with thin slices of organic beef, and bright little green gems of broccoli heads that appear underneath the slightly sweet, orange-y peanut sauce, is NEVER A GOOD IDEA.

when will I learn?

tackling important issues.

zach: F***ing taco bell
zach: Forgot
me: uh oh
zach: My nachos
me: oh no!
zach: F***ing again last night
zach: Like what the hell
me: call them again
zach: I freaking should
zach: I order 10 dollars worth of food i want my nachos
me: you need to like stay in the parking lot and check
me: before you get home
zach: I knowwww
me: haven't you learned your lesson?
zach: Apparently not haha
zach: I was just so hungryy
me: well come on
me: taco bell= good food, chance of illness, and sloppy customer service. everyone knows that
zach: maybe i'll just go to the easton one from now on
me: no zach
me: you're not hearing me
me: it's not the location
me: it's the company
zach: No way, tb rules, those workers are just slackers at that location
zach: Forgetting nachos left and right

No Zach, forgetting nachos is a company-wide policy.

stay tuned for our thoughts on social sercurity.

what went right on 3/26

-i brought in 3 lovely pussy willow stems and sat them in my office window.
-i found a beloved ring that had been missing.
-my sister called and put the peepers on speakerphone so i could hear the sound of spring.
-debbie and i stayed up late and i gave us each fake tattoos with a sharpie.
-no one ever said how beautiful it is to fall out of love.

time: wednesday, half off every color tag
location: shoes, salvation army, allentown
involved: dumpy salvation army worker, old drunk allentownie.

girl: yeah i see you online alot
man: well i'm online, but i'm not "online"...
girl: no i see you on yahoo.
man: yeah it says i'm online, but i'm not "on. line."
man: you know what i mean, right?
man: like it says i'm online...
man: but i'm not "on-line"
man: i'm always "on-line"
man: but i'm not actually "on-line."
girl: (still confused.) oh.

I desparately wanted to clarify, but I waited by the turtlenecks until they went their separate ways- then continued over to the shoes only to notice the minty smell of alcohol hanging in the air next to the penny loafers.

First work purchase with discount... and apparently it's a dress not a shirt. not in my world though.

probably not gonna happen.

If I get out of work at a decent time and get groceries and go home and muster up the motivation, I could make this for dinner.
But cereal's soundin awful good right now.

Zucchini-Crusted Pizza
(from the Moosewood Cookbook)

3 1⁄2 cups grated zucchini
3 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup flour
1⁄2 cup mozzarella cheese
1⁄2 cup grated parmesan
1 Tbsp. fresh basil leaves, minced (or 1⁄2 tsp dried)

Salt the zucchini lightly and let it sit for 15 minutes. Squeeze out the excess moisture.
Combine all crust ingredients and spread into an oiled 9x13-inch pan. Bake 20-25 minutes, until the surface is dry and firm. Brush the top with oil and broil it, under moderate heat for 5 minutes.
Pile all of your favorite pizza toppings on (tomato sauce, cheese, veggies) and heat the whole mess in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes. Serve hot, cut into squares, with a big tossed salad.

It snowed last night. I think it was 6 inches, but this time of year, when it's supposed to be warming up. turning green, getting hopeful...snow looks painfully bright, feels absurdly heavy and seems uber inconvenient. Despite all that (or maybe because of it) I like shoveling. It feels like I'm killing winter.
And it feels so good.

There’s something so virtuous about running in the rain.
The air is so quiet.
At first I hear nothing-
Then a bit of rain gently slaps the pavement
My jacket rustles beneath my swinging arms
My sneakers crunch like gears on the gravel.

My careless breathing catches up with me
And exertion tightens in my throat.
Rain mists my cheeks and lips, and sometimes gets in my eyes.

I stare down and my legs look strong and muscular
The white of my sneakers flash out from under my knees
And I can hardly believe I’m the one telling them to go so fast.

I slow down to a strong walk
And can feel my belly
Warm, tight, and itchy from the cold.
My hair is slick with rain,
And my arms seem to move faster than the rest of me.

I can smell the neighbors farm-
The distinct sweet and foul smell of cows.
I’m almost home.

Within minutes I’m inside my house.
Warmth pulses in my ears and cheeks,
And my body feels tired and good,
Pleased to be given the task of working hard.

...on a small scale.
Anne (my friend from the attic) told me that the clothes i brought in are selling really well! yipee! i'm on my way to being a clothing designer. ha. ha. well at least it's a start.
so now i have the 'go ahead' to buy more supplies (blank shirts) and get back to stitching!

abegail anne

No time to see where you went abegail
moving throughout dallow water to spill
there crash a wave torn apart on its sail
hope I will see the end one maybe will
open eyes to see it all
I've known you at six feet tall
no time to see where you'll drift abigail.

funny how life comes around in a giant circle.
i found this lovely jeremy enigk song "if i could love you" on a random mix i had on itunes and wanted to look up a little bit more about him and what he's done and lo and behold- he's written a song about me. well not quite, and i'm abigail ann, not abegail anne, but still it was a pleasing discovery and i downloaded it promptly. upon noticing jeremy enigk looked quite familiar, i began to read his bio which informed me (and all of you that were current and hip at the beginning of emo are screaming inside and rolling your eyes at your monitor because DUH i didn't know-) He was the former singer of Sunny Day Real Estate... which is a band that i was never really into but still play a significant role in my memory.

the end.
but not of abigail ann.

oh i'm lucky alright.

i got a new job yesterday.

i'm 22 and i live on my own and have a decent car, but having to get a 2nd job in retail makes me feel like a bit of a failure. but i'm trying to focus on the pros:
...ok it took me a really long time to think of anything and all i've got is: 60% discount.

i'm gonna need some serious shop therapy to get through this.
